Kiairathe Secondary School was started in 1980 as a brainchild of Kiairathe Primary School. It was to cater for increased demand for secondary education for those students who could not go to join distant secondary schools.

It closed down in 1983 due to under enrolment.

The school re-opened in 1986 and has gradually expanded. Todate, it is a double streamed day school with a population of 340 students.

The school is erected on 4.2 acres of land and is sponsered by the Anglican Church of Kenya, Mt. Kenya Central.

The school is manned by 14 teachers out of which eight are male and six are female. The support staff comprises of one female and six male .
